QUESTION: i have been skiing competitivly for a year and in the park for three years and i have been doing well how do i get sponserships
ANSWER: Dylan- That is awesome you are doing well in the competitions you are entering! What companies are sponsoring these events? If you are down with some of the companies, I would communicate with the regional rep or marketing for that particular company - let them know you are doing well in the comps they are putting on. I don't know if they will give you a sponsorship right on the spot, but it will open up communication for the future. Beyond that, I would contact a local photographer and go out and get some good shots. If you are killing it in the park, get some shots of you doing your thing - then go out in other terrain and get some shots, show some versatility: Powder, Lines, Air, Scenic, Lifestyle/Portrait. If you accumulate enough shots - buy a domain name and post your photos, comp results, resume, and a bio. This enables you to contact any rep, marketing, or team manager giving access to your images anywhere. A company not only wants to know you are a ripping skier, but a good ambassador for the company - having a website will show some initiative. If a website is out of the question, you can put together portfolio's and travel to Vegas next January and solicit companies at the SIA snowsports tradeshow. QUESTION: Hey, I have a few small sponsorships, but I rarely to ski competitively. At what age should I really get into skiing?
ANSWER: Hey Jason, I'm sure it's different for every person. I got into competing when I was 12 or 13. I think as soon as you feel confident with your skiing competitions are really fun and a good way to progress your skiing. Just keep ripping and having fun. Cheers -Hayward-
